A recent investigation by The Glasgow Guardian revealed that University of Glasgow servers recorded 63,720,751 connections to ChatGPT in 2025, with a spike of over 11 and half million connections in November alone.

Following a University’s grading error linked to the death of student Ethan Brown, a review of University’s processes and procedures reports systemic risks to quality and standards.

On 26 November, the University of Glasgow James McCune Smith (JMS) building has been spray painted in red. Graffiti reads “UofG funds genocide” and “DIVEST”. University campus security confirmed the incident was performed “through the night” but cannot provide further comment about it.

On 24th June 2025, the University of Glasgow’s main building was painted red in a pro-Palestine demonstration, just one day before summer graduations start.

The University of Glasgow loses six positions from the previous year in The Times and Sunday Times UK University Rankings, and places 22nd as the best University in the UK and third in Scotland.

When I tell people I am from Bari, a small city in Puglia, Italy, the response is usually “Oh, I have been to Rome so many times!”. This always draws a smile on my face: all people want is to feel like they can connect with others. Bari is clearly not the most well-known place in Italy for British people, yet they try to find a way to relate to me. Eleanor Baughan, an Italian and Music student at UofG and songwriter, understands this: through her music, she recounts moments of everyday life to reach people, and I felt the connection with her when I saw her perform at this year’s Future Creatives.

Glasgow University Justice Palestine Society (GUJPS), in a post announcing their demonstration on the 7 October, stated “Whilst we commemorate 2 years of genocide with over 680,000 Palestinians in Gaza killed, we celebrate the glorious Al-Aqsa Flood […]. We honour the resistance which has led the path for our people’s liberation […].” Al-Aqsa Flood is the name of Hamas’ military operation on 7 October 2023. The 7 October 2025 marked the second anniversary of the attacks in Israel by Hamas, which reignited conflict in Palestine and Gaza.

Launched in Edinburgh in 2021, Strut Safe is a UK-wide free phone line to help those out alone at night. The initiative was born after a series of high-profile street violence incidents were reported in the city. Initially a walking service in Edinburgh, the service’s volunteers will talk to you on the phone wherever you might be – in a dark park, as well as on a bus, in a taxi or Uber. This is one of the purposes of their continued partnership with First Bus. The bus company decided to champion Strut Safe as they too felt the responsibility to keep their customers safe all the way throughout their journey.
